​Dear Colleagues,
In the wake of President Trump’s 90-day ban on entry to the USA by citizens of seven predominantly Muslim countries, some of the PALA community may be prevented from going to our West Chester conference, and many of the rest of us may be reconsidering going.  I deeply regret the prevention—but am staying hopeful that reason will prevail and that the blanket ban will expire at the end of April.  As for those of us who are able to go, I am certain that we should do so.  By doing so we “fly the stylistics flag” in America, we meet American stylisticians in larger numbers than we usually can, and we show that everyone interested in language, style and literature is heartily welcome at PALA events, whatever their nationality or beliefs.

The annual conference is the main event of the year for PALA members. The conference is always an extremely enjoyable social occasion, as well as an opportunity for members and others to present their latest research.
