PALA and its commitment to inclusivity
The PALA annual conference welcomes a diverse and inclusive community of scholars.
Every conference aims to be a space for the open exchange of ideas and critically-engaged discussions about stylistics and related disciplines.
PALA is committed to creating a safe, respectful and collegial conference experience.
Conference attendees are encouraged to respect cultural and linguistic differences, and to be mindful of the international nature of our community when preparing presentations and engaging in conversation.
PALA will not tolerate offline and online harassment or intimidation of conference attendees based on race, sex, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, language, nationality, marital status, physical or cognitive ability, age, appearance, dietary requirements, and/or other group status.
Harassment and intimidation include but are not limited to overt and/or covert acts of:
- Verbal accusations or bullying
- Unsolicited physical contact
- Unwelcome sexual attention – both verbal and physical
- Stalking or following someone
- Sustained disruption of talks or other events
- Advocating for, or encouraging, any of the above behaviour
Conference attendees violating these rules may be sanctioned or expelled from the conference (without a refund) at the discretion of the conference organisers.
If any attendee feels unsafe or unwelcome for any of the above reasons, they are urged to notify one of the local conference organisers or a member of the PALA Committee, who will provide assistance. Conference attendees witnessing inappropriate behaviour can also notify organisers or committee members.
